Machine Readable Passport

 

Important announcement

 

On the demand of the Pakistani community, the Government of Pakistan has announced issuance of Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) valid for 10 years, with immediate effect. The fee for 10 years valid passports has been enhanced up to 80% of the existing fee. However, children up to the age of fifteen (15) years will continue to be issued passports with validity of 05 years.

 

This facility is initially being offered at the High Commission for Pakistan, London and the Consulate General of Pakistan, Bradford. Both Missions will start issuing Machine Readable Passports valid for 10 years w.e.f. 2nd January, 2014.

Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) are issued in conformity with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

 

Ever since the installation of Machine Readable Passport (MRP) facility at the High Commission in London, issuance of manual passports has been phased out.

 

MRP office operates on the principal of live data capturing so applicants’ presence (with required documents) is compulsory to process the application.

 

Applicants' data entry, photo, signature and thumb impression capturing are done by trained MRP staff using latest technology.

 

Applicants DO NOT need any application forms or photographs for MRP applications as it is done by MRP staff during application process.

 

Applicants DO NOT require any prior appointment for MRP application. They will be entertained on first come first served basis during application processing time.

Requirements for Application/Processing

 

§  Personal appearance of the applicant(s)

§  Production of original valid Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) / National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) or Child Registration Certificate (CRC) issued by NADRA is a mandatory requirement.

 

For Adults (18 years and above)

a.    Original valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or NICOP along with its photocopy 

b.    Previous Original Passport with its photocopy

c.    Original valid UK visa (Visa sticker or Biometric Residence Permit Card) along with its photocopy  

 

Note:  a.     Married female applicants are required to produce original CNIC / NICOP containing their husband’s name. They would otherwise be required to get their CNIC / NICOP modified in accordance with their marital status before applying for MRP. 

b.     Pakistan Government employees are required to produce original fresh No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by their respective Ministries / Divisions / Departments.

 

For Children below 18 Years

a.    Under 18 years of age applicants must be accompanied by both parents  

b.    Previous Original Passport with its copy  

c.    Original National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) or Child Registration Certificate (CRC) issued by NADRA

d.    Original valid UK visa (Visa sticker or Biometric Residence Permit Card) along with its photocopy  

e.    Parent's Passports and valid UK visas with photocopies 

f.    Birth Certificate and its copy
 

Note: In case where the parents are separated or divorced, the custodian father or mother is required to produce court orders confirming his! her legal right of custody of the child.  

 

 


Additional requirement for Dual Nationals 

 

Dual Nationals are required to bring a photocopy of their British Passport as well along with all other required documents. 




 

Lost Passports

 

In case of Lost Passport, the applicant needs to produce:

             i.        A photocopy of his/her Lost Passport

           ii.        Police Report containing Lost Passport No.

          iii.        Original valid CNIC / NICOP with its photocopy

          iv.        Copy of valid UK visa

 

 

Note: In case of a lost passport application, MRP shall only be delivered after the verification of the previous MRP/Manual passport from the concerned issuing authority in Pakistan or Abroad, which may take a month or longer.

*    All Fees mentioned above include £ 2.00 bank surcharge per application for consular services being charged at Pakistan High Commission in London and its Consulates in other cities.

 

 

Machine Readable Passport Office Ramadan Timings

 

 

Application/Processing from Monday to Friday

1000 to 1200 hours

Passport Collection Monday to Friday

1430 to 1530 hours

 

 

Note: MRP office will resume its normal timings after the Holy month of Ramadan

 

 


 

MRP Collection / Delivery

 

MRP Postal Delivery

 

Machine Readable Passports can be dispatched on the request of the applicant. The applicants desiring to receive their passports via post are advised to provide prepaid self addressed (Special Delivery) envelope at the Data Entry Station during the application submission process.

 

This facility is available for applicants coming from distant areas and is not available for applicants residing in Greater London area. It is clarified that in case of loss of passport during mail, the responsibility will be upon applicant or Royal Mail and Pakistan High Commission will not be responsible for it.

 

MRP Collection

 

Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) can be collected from MRP Office at High Commission for Pakistan between 1430 to 1530 hours from Monday to Friday except public/announced holidays during Holy month of Ramadan.

 

Applicants need to collect their passports in person . However to facilitate the families, in case of more than one family members’ passports need to be collected, only one family member can come to collect the MRPs issued for all his / her family members.  

 

COMPLUSORY ACTION TO BE DONE AFTER COLLECTION OF MRP
After collection of MRP each holder is required to put his signature or thumb impression in the given box on page 2 of the passport. In case of minor, thumb impression of the child is to be affixed (Female = Right Thumb, Male = Left Thumb).  

 

IMPORTANT NOTE:
All applicants are advised to collect their passports by the due date. Passports not collected one month after the collection date will be destroyed by burning as per existing policy.  

 

 


 

Child Endorsement on MRP

 

Machine Readable Passport (MRP) is issued in conformity with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. According to the ICAO standards child endorsement is not allowed on parent’s passport. Therefore child endorsement will not be done on the parents’ machine readable passport. Instead of this; children (even under 18 years) will be issued a separate Machine Readable Passport (MRP)
