JTC
interviews High Commissioner for Pakistan
In his first video entry
the High Commissioner talks to the Jubilee Time Capsule about his long-standing
relationship with the Commonwealth. His Excellency received a
Commonwealth Press Union Scholarship to study in the UK in 1968, and attended
his first Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting with Prime Minister Benazir
Bhutto in 1989. The 1989 CHOGM
was held in Kuala Lumpur from 18 – 24th October. The High
Commissioner recalls that is was at this conference that Prime Minister Bhutto
made the landmark decision to bring Pakistan back into the Commonwealth. His Excellency then continues to say that
the Commonwealth’s most outstanding contribution to Pakistan is the
support it has provided for democratic movements in Pakistan. HE says
that whenever Bhutto visited the UK she would ask for a meeting with the
Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, because she believed that the
Commonwealth exerted a lot of moral pressure for the return of democracy in
Pakistan. To watch the first interview click here.
