Lord Mayor of
Manchester called on High Commissioner
Lord Mayor of Manchester Naeem Ul Hassan JP called on Pakistan High Commissioner for
UK Mr Wajid Shamsul Hasan in his office on 23 May 2013 and discussed a wide
range of issues including the Pakistani diaspora in Manchester. The High
Commissioner congratulated him on his election to the prestigious public office
of Lord Mayor and hoped that he would continue his contribution towards the
uplift of the Pakistani diaspora in Manchester. He particularly emphasized on
the need of policies aimed at greater integration of the Pakistani diaspora in
the British society so that they could play a more effective role in various
walks of life in the UK.

The Lord Mayor expressed his resolve
to serve the Pakistani diaspora to the best of his capabilities. He was
accompanied by his wife Ms Zulleh Huma
Hassan. Deputy High Commissioner Syed Zulfiqar Gardezi was also present
on the occasion.
Mayor Hassan was born in Lahore, Pakistan
but moved to Manchester in 1984. He brings to the office a diverse range of
employment experience of community development.
Since being elected to Manchester City
Council, Hassan has served on a large variety of committees and been involved
in numerous community groups, including Muslims for Labour and the Asian
Community Development Trust.
