PM urges press officers to highlight national policies
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza
Gilani on 25th January called upon the press officers posted in the
country’s missions abroad to highlight national policies reflecting the
real Pakistan. He was talking to the group of press
officers at the PM House, participating in the annual Consultative Conference
being organized by the External Publicity Wing of the Ministry of Information
and Broadcasting. Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan was also
present. The Prime minister said the challenges
being faced by the country required a proactive approach by the professional
officers working in the field of public relations. He said such approach would help develop a
meaningful linkage with the international community utilizing all possible
sources of communication including media. He stressed upon the participants of the
conference to utilize social media as an effective tool to convey the desired
messages. He called upon the press officers to
enhance their communication skills and employ modern technology in discharging
their responsibilities. “While functioning as communicators,
they should also highlight the social, cultural aspects of the society to help
promote the country’s soft image,” he said. The Prime Minister assured that the
government would extend all possible support to the Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting as well as its outlets abroad to further improve their
performance. The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts
of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for organizing the Consultative
Conference which would provide a useful forum to develop a strategy for
building the image of the country. He expected meaningful deliberations and
concrete proposals by the missions aborad. The Minister for Information and

Awan apprised the Prime Minister of the details regarding the Consultative
Conference and its objectives. She assured that the deliberations of the
conference would remain within the parameters of the advice given by the Prime
Minister. The press officers from Pakistan’s
Missions at Washington, London, New Delhi, Berlin, Brussels, Singapore, Ankara,
Moscow, Dubai, Ottawa, Beijing, Tehran, Hong Kong, Kabul, Cairo and Tokyo, who
