Pakistan Painting Exhibition at House of
Commons starts
London: The “Fusion of Colours”
a five-day exhibition of Pakistani paintings started yesterday in the House of
Commons, London. The jointly organized exhibition by Ejaz Art Gallery, Lahore,
MP Anas Sarwar, community members and the Pakistan High Commission in London is
unique in the sense that it is the first ever exhibition of the Pakistani
paintings at the House of Commons.
The Parliamentary Under
Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Mr. Alistair Burt MP
who was the Chief Guest, inaugurated the exhibition and appreciated the
initiative aimed at promotion of Pakistani art and culture in the UK. He termed
the holding of exhibition in London an effective way of sharing ideas on art
and culture between the two countries. On this occasion Mr. Burt lauded the
role of Pakistani Diaspora and said that more than one million Pakistanis in
the UK reflected the living relationship between the two countries.
The Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan in
London Mr. Muhammad Nafees Zakaria was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Mr.
Zakaria lauded the efforts of the organizers of the exhibition and laid
emphasis on holding more such events to project the real image of Pakistan
which is different from the one depicted in the international media. Mr Zakria said the region where Pakistan is situated remained
a melting pot of ancient civilizations. He appreciated the constant support of
Mr. Burt for Pakistan. Mr Zakria underlined the
contribution of Pakistani Diaspora in the progress and development of the UK.
He also appreciated MP Anas Sarwar for sponsoring the exhibition. Mr. Sarwar
also addressed the gathering and stressed on the need of promoting Pakistani
art and culture.
Ms Durdana Ansari, OBE, a former BBC journalist and social worker of
Pakistani origin moderated the inaugural session of the exhibition. Ms Faiza Butt An artist and teacher from Pakistan explained
the salient features of the paintings placed at the exhibition.
The “Fusion of Colours”
exhibits paintings of the distinguished artists namely, Ahmed Khan, Ali Abbas, Amina Ansari, Asad
Faruki, Gulgee, Irfan Hasan, Ishtiaq Sandhu, M.A.
Bhatti, Mashkoor Raza, R.M.
Naeem, Rahat Naveed Masood,
Saeed Akhtar, Shahid Jalal, Waseem
Ahmed and Faiza Butt. These artists are the
recipients of the numerous Awards and Honours at national and international
level and their work is shown in major exhibitions globally. Muhammad Ramzan of the Ejaz Art Gallery was also present along with
the paintings of the Gallery. A large number of visitors including Lords, MPs
and general public are expected to see the exhibition.
