Pakistanis detained
in Bagram, Gitmo prisons London: Reference reports carried by the
British media regarding the plight of detainees kept in the prisons without
trial at Guantanamo Bay and Bagram, Afghanistan,
among whom, reportedly, there are a number of
Pakistanis also. The Government of Pakistan is concerned over the plight of its
nationals, detained in the two prisons, and deeply appreciates the efforts of
the members of civil society who pursue the cause of providing relief to the
aggrieved detainees. Some sections of the press in their reports
have tried to suggest that repatriation of the Pakistani detainees may face
problems of acceptance by the Government. In this regard the High Commission
wishes to dispel this impression as it would be wrong to assume that Government
of Pakistan would ever decline to take back its nationals, especially those who
have suffered the ordeal of detentions without trial on foreign soils. January 11, 2012 Last updated: 12 January 2012
