Dr. Choudry Mohammed Walayat MBE passed away on Sunday, 13 November 2011

 

LONDON: Dr. Choudry Mohammed Walayat MBE, a renowned British citizen of Pakistan origin has passed away on Sunday, 13 November 2011 at the age of 75.

 

Hailing from a humble Kashmiri background, Dr. Walayat arrived in the UK in 1961. After experiencing racial prejudice, Dr. Walayat worked to help members of the Pakistani and Kashmiri community to adapt to their new land. He became a member of the South Yorkshire Police Authority and an official Home Office immigration Adviser. He also remained a member of Sheffield City Council from 1986 to 1998.

 

In recognition of his meritorious services to the community, Dr. Walayat was decorated with MBE and awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Khartoum, Sudan.

 

Dr. Choudry Walayat’s sad demise is a great loss not only to his family but to the entire Pakistani community in the UK. He will always be remembered for his valuable contributions in promoting the cause of Pakistani community and for its better integration into the British society.

 

Pakistan High Commission in London offers its heartfelt condolences to the family of late Dr. Choudry. May Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss (Aameen).
