High Commissioner urges upon national unity to deal with flood disaster in Pakistan

 

High Commissioner for Pakistan to the UK Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan has called upon Pakistani people to join hands and show unity with the view to help in best possible way the affectees of floods in Pakistan which is worst humanitarian disaster of the recent history.  Addressing the Flag Hoisting Ceremony in connection with Pakistan Independence Day held at the Pakistan High Commission on 14 August he said that it was the time to rise above politics and deal with this enormous calamity with the spirit of unity and dedication.

 

 Mr. Hasan said that all the political  parties stand  side by side  today and  have joined  hands to provide  help to the   people who  are  suffering due to this natural  calamity  He added that expatriates Pakistanis have always  rendered great  support to people of Pakistan in the hour of need.  The British people and  government have  come up  with  substantial  and  valuable  help  to flood  affectee, he added .

 

Keeping in view the devastation caused by the floods, that has affected around 20 million people in Pakistan this year simplicity and solemnity was observed on the occasion of Flag Hoisting Ceremony at the High Commission

 

The High Commissioner said that the entire government machinery NOGs and international organizations have been mobilized to tackle this disaster of high magnitude, as millions of people have lost everything in this disaster.

 

Commending the role of Pakistan Army, Navy and Air Force the High Commissioner said that our forces were already engaged in fight against terrorism and now in addition they are carrying out rescue and relief operations in the flood affected areas. He expressed the hope that nation will soon come out of this difficult time. The High Commissioner further added that democratic government must be strengthened as it is though the democratic process that real aspirations of people will be fulfil and vision of Quaid-i-Azam be realized.

 

In the beginning of the ceremony the High Commissioner unfurled Pakistan’s Flag as the national anthem was played. Messages of the President and the prime minister were read by Head of Chancery Mr. Aftab Hasan Khan and Third Secretary Political Mr. Awais Ahmed Khan respectively. Children sang national songs with fervour and zeal, High Commissioner gave away gifts to the children.
