Bilawal appeals Pakistani diaspora in UK to donate generously for flood-victims
 
LONDON: Chairman Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Saturday made a fervent appeal to the British Pakistani Diaspora to donate generously to the Prime Minister Flood Relief Fund for helping the flood-victims Launching the fund raising appeal at the Pakistani High Commission here, he said, this was not the time for politics but everyone should join hands to help the flood-victims, who were in dire need of help in this critical hour. He said the flash flood, the worst ever in the country’s history, has devastated large parts of it.


He urged that all Pakistanis should set aside their differences and do whatever they can for the flood-victims so that they are rehabilitated as early as possible.

On this occasion, Pakistan High Commissioner, Wajid Shamsul Hasan announced that President Asif Ali Zardari has donated an amount of 2.5 million pounds towards Prime Minister Flood Relief Funds.


Additionally, the UK-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry also announced a donation of 10,000 pounds while the All Pakistan Women Association, UK (APWA-UK) also announced to donate 55,000 blankets with the collaboration of Actions for Change (AfC), a UK-based charity in addition to 5,000 pounds in cash as well as large amount of food, tent and other items.

The Pakistan High Commission Women Body also announced to donate 1,000 pounds for the relief fund while a leading British Retail Organization- The Bestway Group, owned by a British Pakistani Sir Anwar Pervez, announced a donation of Rs. 5 million.

Hasan told the gathering that flood relief accounts have been opened in different UK based Pakistani banks to enable people deposit in these accounts.

He expressed the hope that people of the UK, who have always helped Pakistan in the hour of distress would continue to support the country in a positive manner.
