Wajid for promoting football among Pakistanis

 

London: Pakistani youth  possess  immense  potential and talent  to excel in  sports including  football  and this talent   needs  to be  harnessed  through  proper  facilities  and  infrastructure in order to bring  them at par with international players .  High Commissioner for  Pakistan to the UK, Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan expressed these views at a press  conference  convened at  the Pakistan  High Commission, here, today  to  launch  media campaign for a series of  foot ball matches to be played  between  Pakistan international X1 and   Woking  Football Club  in the month of  August.  The first match would be played on 1st of August.  

 

The matches are being  organized,   in collaboration  with the Pakistan High Commission , by Woking  Football Club and Touch Sky  Sports with the  aim  to  promote   soccer  in  Pakistani  youth  both in Pakistan as well as among  Pakistani Diaspora in the UK. The TouchSky  Sports is working in Pakistan with  KASB  Foundation  , Geo Super League  and Karachi  United Football Club for  developing  infrastructure  and  coaching  facilities for  foot ball in Pakistan.  The matches aim at  forging greater  community  cohesion  by involving football players of  Pakistani  origin  in the mainstream football events  on the one hand  and  projecting  positive  image of Pakistan on the other.

  

 Flanked by  Shahid Azeem  UK’s  first soccer player  of  Pakistani  origin, now   Chairman Woking Football Club and  Ahmer Kunwar Director Touch Sky Sports    the High Commissioner elaborated on the  significance of  encouraging  youth  to  join sports and  make a mark  in  international events. . He  said that Pakistan  is  one of the largest   exporters of  footballs for  international  matches including  FIFA World Cup  and  has  capability to   excel  in this sport   if  young people  are  provided with  proper  coaching facilities and infra structure . He added that   the  efforts being undertaken by   Woking  Football Club and  Touch Sky Sports   will go a long  way in addressing these  needs in Pakistan besides   encouraging  youth of Pakistani origin to participate in football events in the UK .

 

Shahid Azeem said that  while Pakistan  is renowned  for its  prowess in  cricket , hockey  and  squash  , we want  to  give  Pakistan  another sport  to celebrate  worldwide. Football  players of Pakistani origin  including  Azim Ahmed and Kashif  Siddiqui were also  present  on the occasion  and  tackled queries related to skills  of  football players of  Pakistani  origin  and  interest of  community in  watching  matches.
