Wajid urges continued support for
rehabilitation of Swat IDPs
APWA-UK arranges donation for effectees
of Swat and Malakand
Pakistan High Commissioner to UK Mr. Wajid
Shamsul Hasan has said that the people of Swat need continued support in the
process of rehabilitation and community must donate generously for helping the
effected families in settling down after the turmoil of displacement they have
seen due to military operation against extremists. He expressed these
views on the occasion of dispatching 55,000 blankets donated by All Pakistan
Women Association (APWA) in collaboration with the Charity Action for change,
for effected families of Swat and Malakand. The donation will be carried to Pakistan by
PIA, free of charge.
The High Commissioner appreciated the role of
community and said that sum of £ 50,000 has been sent from the
Pakistani community settled in the UK for Prime Minister’s Special
Fund. APWA has already donated £ 15000 for Prime Minister’s Fund and this
timely help in the form of blankets would be a source of comfort in the winter
season.
The donation of 55,000 blankets has been arranged
by All Pakistan Women Association (APWA), the UK Chapter for the effected
families of Swat and Malakand. The blankets have been gifted by an Airline to
the “Action for Change” and on APWA - UK’s request they have been donated
for people of Swat and Malakand.
It will soon be very cold in Swat and Malakand and
the temperature will drop many degrees below freezing point. These blankets
would certainly be one of the most essential items required by the local
population for that region this winter.
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has extended
vital support by way of facilitating the transportation of the consignment to Pakistan.
APWA – UK
has arranged to have the blankets donated to the Prime Minister’s “Special
Fund” for distribution in Pakistan.
APWA – UK functions under the patronage of
Pakistan High Commission London with High Commissioner’s wife Mrs. Zarina Wajid Hasan, as its Chairperson.
