Wajid urges support for deserving students

 

Record funds raised at FAMS event

 

Pakistan’s High Commissioner  Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan has called upon  the Pakistani  Community to extend  full support  towards improving  education level  of younger  generation  with particular emphasis on  professional fields. He was speaking  on the  occasion of  Third Annual Dinner organized by  Financial Assistance for Medical  Students(FAMS) a charity  supporting  deserving students of  Rawalpindi Medical College,  in Manchester

 

Like previous  years  this year  also the  event  turned out to be a  big success as a   record sum of  funding  was raised from  people representing all walks of life. A single donor handed over a cheque worth £10,000 for FAMS during the event. The organization bears complete costs incurred in completing MBBS of deserving students every year thus sponsoring 25 students at present. Sponsorships for five deserving students for new academic year beginning from this December have been secured by independent donors for 5 years of their MBBS course.
 
From the fund raising point, this was FAMS most successful annual event so far. The High Commissioner applauded the role of FAMS and paid rich tributes to members of the Board of Directors for their tireless efforts to help the deserving medical students in Pakistan. Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan described FAMS as the only
organisation of its kind in UK which is playing a leading role in highlighting the plight of the poor medical students in Pakistan. He encouraged the FAMS team to spread this good work to the rest of Pakistan as well and assured of his full co-operation and assistance.
 
Dr. Amir Ayub, Founder and Chief Co
-ordinator FAMS, presented the Annual Report of the organization. . The guests were informed that by the end of this year there will be a total of 205 students enrolled under the programme for the 5 year MBBS course. Dr. Ayub announced sponsorship for a student from Swat also, who had an admission in Bannu Medical College but could not continue his studies due to lack of funding. This bright student who achieved A* in his intermediate examination will now be able to continue his studies through finances provided by FAMS
 
Dr. Ayub thanked the High Commissioner for gracing the occasion. FAMS Board of Directors also thanked Mr. Talha Saeed, from Pakistan High Commission for his invaluable contribution in the launch of FAMS 3 years ago.
