Pakistan Day Celebrations at the Pakistan High Commission

 

Awards presented for outstanding services

 

Nation will Fight Back Terrorism - Wajid

 

To celebrate 69th Pakistan Day, a graceful flag hoisting ceremony took place at the Pakistan High Commission, London today. The High Commissioner, Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan hoisted Pakistan’s flag and presented Pakistan Day Awards to the people from different walks of life in recognition of their outstanding contribution.

 

Addressing a large gathering of Pakistani Community settled in UK, the High Commissioner Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan said that terrorism is the biggest challenge being faced by Pakistani nation today but with its commitment to overcome challenges and its incredible ability to sail through the problems the nation will definitely succeed in defeating the forces of terrorism and would be able to show to the world that Islam is a religion of peace. He said that security forces of Pakistan are engaged in eradicating terrorism and have made commendable sacrifices in this regard.

 

Mr. Hasan further said that this is a matter of pride for us, today that democratic institutions are effectively working in Pakistan and restoration of judges by the government of Pakistan People’s Party is an example of nation’s ability to resolve matters in the spirit of reconciliation.

 

He reiterated President’s point of view that Pakistan will come out the vicious circle of trampling of democratic institutions. And rule of law and constitutionalism will prevail in the country. Earlier the messages of President and Prime Minister were read out by the Head of Chancery Mr. Hamid Asghar Khan and Political Counsellor Ms. Aisha Farooqui.  

 

Keeping in line with the tradition of recognizing outstanding contribution of the Pakistani community, Pakistan Day Awards were presented by the High Commissioner to individuals from various walks of life in recognition of outstanding services and performance. Those who received Awards included Mr. Ali Kiyani (late), whose award was received by his wife Mrs. Rubina Kiyani, Photojournalist Mr. Waqar Zaidi, Ms. Afshan Bangash for reporting in electronic media, student Ali Moeen Nawazish for making world record of achieving 21 A grades, Badshah Gul for longest period of service at Pakistan High Commission London and National Union of Pakistani Students and Alumni.  National songs were also sung by children and cake was also cut to mark the 69th Pakistan Day.
