Pakistani diaspora in Britain
a strong bridge for projecting Pakistan’s
stance: Wajid addresses community representatives
The Pakistani community based in UK is committed to work for image
building of Pakistan and would
carry forward the stance of Pakistan
and its role in the war against terrorism for the peace and security of the
region. The representatives of the community of Pakistani origin endorsed the
views expressed by Pakistan ʼs High Commissioner to UK
Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan, while addressing the community members, at the
Pakistan High Commission here, today.
The High Commissioner discussed with them the role of
Pakistani community in current regional and international context particularly
in furthering Pakistan’s
point of view on various issues.
He said that peaceful solution of Kashmir
problem was imperative to uproot terrorism from the region. The High
Commissioner asserted that government of Pakistan is determined to tackle
terrorism and it is fighting the war against terrorism, while bearing heavy
costs, for the sake of peace not only in the region but its impact at the
global level. He said that after Mumbai blasts Pakistan
offered for investigations through joint commission and the dossier submitted
by India
is being examined carefully.
Mr. Hasan said that Islam is religion of peace and it is
against terrorism. He emphasized the need to rectify false perceptions. He
called upon the community to serve as bridge for overcoming communication gaps
with the society, they live in, at different levels,
particularly for creating interfaith harmony and ensuring mainstreaming of
Pakistani diaspora in various walks of life.
The High Commissioner also underscored the significance of
contribution made by community in the economic development of Pakistan through investments and trade and said
that UK being one of the
leading trade partner of Pakistan
needs attention for further enhancement of trade relations
A large number of community representatives particularly
councillors attended the meeting and ensured support and commitment in this
regard.
