Wajid for Pro-active role of Pakistani diaspora
in Britain:
Stresses interfaith harmony
The International Community as well as Pakistani
diaspora living abroad need to focus on assisting Pakistan in strengthening
democratic institutions and social sector development with a view to ensure
stability in Pakistan which is a pre-requisite for attaining not only regional
security but also the international efforts for maintaining global peace, said
Pakistan’s High Commissioner to UK, Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan.
He was speaking on the occasion of a meeting with
representatives of Pakistani community, here today.
Emphasizing enhancing investments in Pakistan, as an
instrument of economic development, the High Commissioner apprised the community
of the efforts being made by the present Government in overcoming external and
internal challenges. He said that a stable Pakistan with strong democratic institutions
was imperative for the development of the country itself and also for regional
and global peace and security.
Appreciating the role of Pakistani diaspora in
strengthening bonds between Pakistan
and UK, High Commissioner
called upon the community to play a pro-active role in building up a positive
image of Pakistan
and contribute positively towards the society they live in, through fostering
greater interfaith harmony and integration into mainstream society.
A wide range of community representatives from
various walks of life attended the meeting. The High Commissioner listened to
the problems faced by the people of Pakistani origin here, as well as during
their visits to Pakistan.
He emphasized for increased interaction between the community and High
Commission to evolve a better understanding of the concerns of Pakistani
diaspora in Britain.
