Wajid conveys felicitations of Prime Minister Gilani for
achievement awards of Pakistani community

Kingdom conveyed felicitations of Prime
Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to the recipients of Achievement Awards. In a message
from the Prime Minister read out on 16 January 2009 on the occasion of Pakistan
Achievement Awards held in London,
Gilani said the Government fully supported the sincere efforts of expatriate
Pakistanis, appreciating their strength and unity.
The Prime Minister in his message further said that the
people of Pakistan have tremendous potential to contribute positively at the
national and international levels and there are many examples of the high
standards of achievement set by the Pakistani students studying abroad which
still remain unbeatable.
“The investments made in Pakistan by several companies such
as Bestway were contributing towards economic
development of the country,” he noted.
Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Wajid, who was
the chief guest in the ceremony, said that though Pakistan was passing through
difficult times, the Pakistani nation will sail through the challenges and
overcome difficulties with the commitment of present Government and the resilience
of Pakistani people at home and abroad.
This was for the time that achievement awards were
organised exclusively for Pakistani expatriates settled in UK. Awards were given to twenty
eight individuals in recognition of their performance and contribution in the
fields of academics, science and technology, economic development of Pakistan,
journalism, business, fashion, arts and sports.
The event was attended by large number of Pakistani community
including Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in UK’s Ministry of Justice, Shahid Malik, Pakistan
Origin Peer, Lord Nazir Ahmed and young boxing icon Amir Khan.
