Mrs. Zarina Wajid for harnessing international support for education of Pakistani girls

Pakistan’s active participation in the multi-lateral forums must be focussed on tapping support and cooperation for the welfare of people, said Mrs. Zarina Wajid Shamsul Hasan wife of Pakistan’s High Commissioner to UK Mr.Wajid Shamsul Hasan on the occasion of annual fair organized by Commonwealth Countries League with an objective of raising resources for the CCL’s Education Fund at the Kensington Town Hall this weekend. The fund is dedicated to education of disadvantaged girls in the developing Commonwealth countries and 400 girls including those from Pakistan are benefiting from the fund annually.

The active participation of Pakistan was evident from the two prominent stalls, one held by the Pakistan High Commission and other by All Pakistan Women’s Association (APWA).

About 40 countries participated in the colourful event by holding stalls of handicrafts and national products as well as foods and beverages. At the end of fair, there was a grand raffle draw in which people won fabulous prizes sponsored by various High Commissions.

Mrs. Zarina Wajid Shamsul Hasan was actively involved in setting up the stalls and remained on the stalls the whole day. She underscrored the significance of participation in the activities of multi lateral organizations such as Commonwealth for promoting the products and culture of Pakistan as well as fostering support for uplift of the deserving sections of population through such forum. She emphasied the need for tapping available channels and generating more resources for education of girls in Pakistan and appreciated the efforts of UK chapter of APWA for this purpose.

Mrs. Qamar Murtaza Qureshi of APWA informed that the UK Chapter of APWA had been contributing towards the uplift of women in Pakistan and a number of scholarships were being given to young girls in Pakistan to help them realize their dreams of achieving higher goals in life.

The brochure printed by CCL on this occasion also carried the pictures and views of two Pakistani girls Javaria and Mehak who are recipients of CCL scholarship. Javaria has expressed her views as “the scholarship has motivated me to study with full zeal and enthusiasm and achieve my goal of becoming doctor”
