National Housing Authority launches
website
The Authority was established in 1987 with the
primary objective of preparing short and long terms plans and policy guidelines
and mobilizing financing resources for development of housing for low income
groups. It was subsequently declared as an attached department of Ministry of
Housing and Works in 2000. NHA envisages ‘Housing for All’ through optimum
mobilization of public-private resources for sustainable development. One of
its major aims is to attract local and foreign investment in housing sector,
apart from upgrading the existing sub-standard houses and providing affordable
housing to low income groups of population in order to improve the overall
quality of life in
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani,
just after taking over as the new Prime Minister, announced launching of a
programme to construct one million housing units annually. Other segments of the
package include: regularizing kachi abadies, provision of better residential facility to the
government employees, apartments for government employee on their retirement,
and five-marla scheme in rural areas besides flats
and 80 sq. meter houses in the urban areas.
