Pakistan proud of students who excel
globally, says Dr. Lodhi
Pakistan’s envoy to Britain Dr. Maleeha Lodhi has
congratulated the Pakistani students who have been awarded scholarships by the
prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science.
Speaking at a reception to honour the young recipients of
the scholarships, she said, Pakistan
was proud of their achievement which underlined the ability of Pakistani
students, when given an opportunity, to outperform international competition.
Of the 11 students given scholarships under the LSE’s
External Programme worldwide, 9 are from Pakistan. These nine awardees
include girls and boys predominantly from colleges of Rawalpindi–Islamabad, who
are enrolled in various Social Science disciplines at the LSE. A student each
from India and Singapore
were also awarded scholarships in 2007.
There are currently over 1,000 students registered with
the University of London and studying in Pakistan, either independently or
with the support of local teaching institutions. As a college of the University of London, LSE is responsible for the
academic direction of a range of undergraduate programmes in Economics,
Management, Finance and the Social Sciences. Each year, students apply to LSE
on the basis of their studies with the External Programme, either for first
year or second year entry to an undergraduate programme, or for masters degrees.
In 2008, the University
of London will be celebrating the
150th anniversary of its External System; a system which has allowed students
from all over the world to study for a University of London
qualification.
On this occasion, High Commissioner Dr. Maleeha Lodhi, who
had been invited as the Guest of Honour, thanked Ms. Rosemary Gosling, Director
of LSE External Programme for the scholarships and for so ably running the
LSE’s external programme.
